Phonics teaching is a fundamental part of how children learn to read and write and begins as soon as children join our school in Reception. Phonics is a method to which pupils are taught how to read and write. Through phonics reading they will learn to make connections between sounds and the symbols we use to represent them.
Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics programme we use at St Ursula's which helps all children to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. It also allows them to spell effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into composing what they write.
